Eating Disorder Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
The Eating Disorder Partial Hospitalization Program at Lindner Center of HOPE (EDO PHP) is designed to provide intensive treatment for eating disorder patients who don’t meet criteria for inpatient hospitalization but are not stable enough to be treated in the traditional outpatient setting. Goals of the program include weight restoration, nutritional support and planning, adoption of cognitive coping skills, and assistance in the management of the disease and symptoms so that traditional outpatient services will be effective.
EDO PHP is often used as step-down treatment from inpatient hospitalization with the intent of transitioning patients back into their home environment and healthy routines. As such, EDO PHP is a cost-effective option for patients who meet the admission criteria.
EDO PHP operates Monday through Friday (except legal holidays), 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on the campus of the Lindner Center of HOPE. Duration of the program is based on individual progress towards established goals. The average length of stay for the EDO PHP is three weeks.
The program features:
- Dedicated treatment team
- Attended and supported breakfast, lunch and dinner, and some supervised snacks (food included)
- Monitored physical status, including weight and vital signs
- Check-in and Check-out with goal setting and skill debriefing
- General group programs which are DBT-based and with a primary focus on skill development (up to six each day)
- Supportive individual psychotherapy two times per week
- Nutritional and meal planning support
- Medication management/medical consultation
- Specialized EDO group therapy (one to two times daily)
- Weekly outings for exposure therapy, i.e., restaurants, grocery store, clothing store
- Family support and education
- Establishment of continuity of Eating Disorder care in the community

Mindful Transitions
EDO PHP operates in conjunction with Mindful Transitions, Lindner Center of HOPE’s Adult Partial Hospitalization Program, available for adults who are experiencing emotional or behavioral issues significant enough to affect daily functioning or quality of life. These patients are suffering with diagnoses including but not limited to: mood disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, adjustment disorders and thought disorders not requiring hospitalization.

- 18 years or older
- Eating disorder diagnosis classified in the current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM)
- Currently experiencing at least one of the following:
- Ideal body weight <85%
- Intense fear of gaining weight
- Distorted body image
- Binge eating episodes or compensatory behaviors:
- Purging
- Fasting
- Excessive exercising
- Admission on a voluntary basis with the ability to participate in the therapeutic process
- Reasonable expectation that presenting symptoms can be reduced or controlled
- Referral from licensed independent practitioner. Patient must have an established outpatient provider who can provide services upon discharge from the PHP program, and while the patient is enrolled in PHP, as needed.
- The Eating Disorder Partial Hospitalization Program at Lindner Center of HOPE (EDO PHP) operates Monday through Friday (except legal holidays), 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on the campus of the Lindner Center of HOPE at 4075 Old Western Row Road, Mason, 45040.
- Patients attend EDO PHP five days per week.
- Average duration of the program is four weeks, but duration of the program is based on individual progress toward established goals.
Admission Process
Patients are asked to arrive at 7 a.m. on day one for admission. During Check-in, badges will be issued to the enrollee and must be returned when leaving the facility.
Admission process includes:
- Referral from licensed independent practitioners received by intake specialists. Must include basic patient information and reason for referral, laboratory results and EKG.
- Review and acceptance by EDO PHP treatment team
- Nursing assessment (completed on day one of the program; takes approximately one hour)
- Social work assessment (completed day one of the program)
- Physician assessment (completed day one of the program)
- Development of initial individualized treatment plan
Many insurance plans have specific partial hospital benefits. Lindner Center of HOPE will work with each patient to determine coverage prior to enrollment in the program.
Can patients drive to EDO PHP? Does the program offer transportation?
Any patient who can safely drive and is permitted to do so may drive to and from the program. All others must arrange transportation as Lindner Center of HOPE does not offer transportation for this program.
Will my insurance cover EDO PHP?
Many insurance plans cover partial hospitalization. Lindner Center of HOPE staff will work with each individual patient to determine coverage prior to enrollment in the program.

Is Medicaid coverage accepted?
Currently, the Lindner Center of HOPE does not participate in the Medicaid program.
Will the patient need money for meals or incidental items?
No money is needed during the EDO PHP day for enrolled patients.
How are medications managed during the day?
Medications should be taken prior to program attendance each day as prescribed. Medications will not be administered by program staff.
Does the program offer a waiting list?
Waiting lists are not kept. If the program is full when a patient qualifies for admission, a screening assessment will be completed, the request for EDO PHP admission recorded and appropriate recommendations for treatment provided to the patient.
Are there any patient exclusionary criteria?
Patients will not be admitted to the program if any of the following apply:
- Meets criteria for inpatient hospitalization
- Significant active or invasive medical treatment needs not usually managed by the patient himself/herself
- Criminal court order for treatment
- History of sexual perpetration or a registered sexual offender
Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Managing eating disorders often require an intermediate level of care between partial hospitalization and outpatient care. Lindner Center of HOPE offers this for adults age 18 and older.
The Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program (EDO IOP) is designed to provide intensive treatment for patients who aren’t benefitting from outpatient treatment but don’t meet the criteria for partial hospitalization or inpatient treatment.
Goals of EDO IOP include:
- Continue weight restoration, nutritional support and planning
- Develop coping skills
- Assist patients in the management of their disease and symptoms so that traditional outpatient services will be effective.

EDO IOP traditionally operates Tuesday through Friday from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM on the campus of Lindner Center of HOPE. Alternative days will be identified when programming is closed due to holidays. Patients are expected to arrive at 2:30. Weight checks and appointments with the dietitian will be made at this time. On Mondays, patients will also be expected to meet with an individual therapist specially trained in eating disorders. Duration of the program is based on individual progress towards established goals.
