Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is proven to help patients achieve a life worth living. DBT is geared toward individuals who experience difficulty regulating their emotions, tolerating distress, and having healthy interpersonal relationships. It balances the need for the person to make changes along with respect for how painful life is for them. DBT teaches four skill modules: Mindfulness, Distress tolerance, Emotion regulation, and Interpersonal relationship skills. DBT is a well-established treatment for borderline personality disorder, substance abuse, binging, depression, and other problems which include emotion dysregulation. Research shows that those who have successfully completed DBT programs are more likely to have strong interpersonal relationships, find employment, and stop having thoughts of self -harm. In addition, they experience reductions in suicidal behavior and thoughts, hopelessness, depression, drug and alcohol problems, and binge eating.

Lindner Center if HOPE Professional Associates offers DBT skills training for parents. This training is intended for:

  1. A parent of a teen or young adult (some flexibility if an older adult child is still in the role of younger adult)
  2. Whose child is either currently in DBT or has been in DBT in the past
  3. And they wish to learn the skills to help reinforce their child’s use of skills
  4. And would like to use the skills themselves to self-regulate when their child is not using their skills

Parent DBT Skills Training is offered Tuesdays 5-6 pm via Zoom video conference.
