Mason, OH, November 13, 2014 – Lindner Center of HOPE is recognized by The Joint Commission as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® for achieving excellence in performance on its accountability measures during 2013 for Hospital-Based Inpatient Psychiatry. The Lindner Center of HOPE was also recognized in 2012.

Lindner Center of HOPE is one of 1,224 hospitals to meet or exceed the target rates of performance for 2013. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2013 calendar year.

Key_set_with_words_2013  Lindner Center of HOPE and each of the hospitals that were named as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures must: 1) achieve cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures; 2) achieve performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there are at least 30 denominator cases; and 3) have at least one core measure set that has a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and within that measure set all applicable individual accountability measure have a performance rate of 95 percent or above. A 95 percent score means a hospital provided an evidence-based practice 95 times out of 100 opportunities. Each accountability measure represents an evidence-based practice.

Specific measures that Lindner Center of HOPE was evaluated on included:

  • Completing Nursing and SW assessments timely and thoroughly
  • Continued low rates of restraints
  • Physicians documenting the justification of discharging patients on multiple antipsychotics greatly improved
  • Nursing providing patients and/or families with list of discharge medications with doses and indications
  • Social workers securing discharge plans with external providers and obtaining appropriate authorizations for disclosure
  • Timely completion of discharge summaries
  • HIM facilitating the process of forwarding copies of discharge summaries to appropriate external providers for continuity of care

It’s been a cold, snowy winter; it’s time to think Spring and you can’t think of Spring without thinking of the High Hopes Auxiliary’s annual “Spring for Hope” Luncheon.

Join High Hopes for a day of lunching and participate in the silent auction, with all proceeds benefitting the Helping Hands fund at Lindner Center of HOPE, a premier mental health hospital located in Mason offering adult residential services, inpatient hospitalization, research and outpatient services.

In addition to the auction items, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for several unique prizes.

The gourmet luncheon begins at 12:00 pm, featuring one of Lindner Center of HOPE’s grateful patients who will discuss her struggles with mental illness and how clinicians at the Center have helped her in treating her illness.

High Hopes helps support Lindner Center of HOPE’s efforts to provide innovative and scientifically-based, mental health services. Since 2008 High Hopes Auxiliary has raised over $287,000 for Lindner Center of HOPE. Every dollar raised, goes directly into the Helping Hands Fund – a fund that helps patients in need of financial assistance.

High Hopes set a goal this year to raise $65,000 and anticipate 300 in attendance.

“1 in 4 people experience a mental illness in their lifetime,” said Mindy Weigel, co-chair of the event. “It may shock some, but in fact mental illness is the second greatest disease burden in the United States,” Ms. Weigel said. “The Auxiliary recognizes the importance of raising awareness and access to treatment and focuses its efforts towards achieving this.”

The foresight of Frances Lindner and her sister Nancy Nyhart led a collaborative effort with friends and colleagues to form High Hopes Auxiliary. Each shared a passion to raise money for and increase awareness of the benefits of mental health treatment. Mason, OH, October 31, 2013 – Lindner Center of HOPE today was named Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. Lindner Center of HOPE was recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions. The clinical processes focus on care for heart attack, pneumonia, surgery, children’s asthma, stroke and venous thromboembolism , as well as inpatient psychiatric services. New this year is a category for immunization for pneumonia and influenza.

Lindner Center of HOPE is one of 1,099 hospitals in the U.S. earning the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. Lindner Center of HOPE was recognized for its achievement on the following measure sets: Hospital- Based Inpatient Psychiatric Services. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year. The list of Top Performer organizations increased by 77 percent from last year and it represents 33 percent of all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting accountability measure performance data for 2012.

October 15, 2013, Mason, OH – Lindner Center of HOPE’s President and CEO presented Grand Rounds at the Medical University of South Carolina’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in early October as part of the Jason Pressley Visiting Professorship. Dr. Paul E. Keck, Jr., MD, presented “Acute Mania: State of the Evidence”.

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine’s The Craig and Frances Lindner Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience and Executive Vice Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Keck is a researcher in Bipolar Disorder and psychopharmacology, the author of over 525 scientific papers in leading medical journals and was the 7th most cited scientist in the world published in the fields of psychiatry and psychology over the past decade. He has also contributed over 170 reviews and chapters to major psychiatric textbooks.

The Jason Pressley Visiting Professorship honors the memory of 26-year-old Jason Pressley, who was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder at a young age. Jason ultimately took his life in April of 2000.

His family and friends share the goal of encouraging and supporting research and training in the hopes of discovering more effective means of treating bipolar disorder.

Lindner Center of HOPE’s Dr. Palumbo Honored as Exemplary Psychiatrist by NAMI Hamilton County

Excerpts from the nominations for Dr. Palumbo stated, he “has genuine concern and compassion for everyone he sees at Lindner Center of HOPE and its Sibcy House … he always has something legitimately positive to say … He has been a savior to many and a friend to more … it is his never-ending pursuit to bring hope to those who need it.”

NAMI’s annual celebration recognizes those in the local community who are doing exemplary work. The celebration is Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Cintas Center at Xavier University at 6:30 p.m.

Dr. Palumbo has served as a trusted psychiatric resource for the Greater Cincinnati mental health community. Prior to joining Lindner Center of HOPE, Dr. Palumbo evaluated and treated psychiatric emergency room patients through Psychiatric Professional Services, Inc.; University of Cincinnati Department of Psychiatry; and Cincinnati’s VA Medical Center. Dr. Palumbo has also provided patient evaluations, treatments and medication management in collaboration with therapists at Central Clinic’s Children’s Diagnostic Center and at Talbert House. In addition, Dr. Palumbo has supervised resident psychiatrists in the psychiatric emergency room environment.
