January 16, 2025 – Mason, Ohio – Tracy Suzanne Cummings, MD, and Danielle J. Johnson, MD, MHA, FAPA, leaders at Lindner Center of Hope, were named among Cincinnati Magazine’s 2025 Top Doctors. They were selected by peers in a survey asking which physicians they would turn to for care. These esteemed physicians made the list of 939 in 72 specialties.

January 9, 2025 – Mason, Ohio – S. Craig Lindner, Chairman of the Board and Founder of Lindner Center of Hope, has named Michael Groat, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lindner Center of Hope in Mason, Ohio, effective January 1, 2025.

“The Board and I are confident that Dr. Groat will continue to lead the Center with excellence, with a strong focus on growth and the future. We look forward to entering this exciting new chapter with Dr. Groat at the helm,” said Mr. Lindner.

Dr. Groat shared his enthusiasm for the Center, “The Lindner Center of Hope is a special place. The staff bring warmth, compassion, and empathy to people facing complex mental health conditions, and blend this humanity with scientific expertise. I am thrilled to lead the Center’s team into a new era of growth and expansion that will broaden our reach.”

Dr. Groat joined the Center 13 months ago, in the role of Chief Clinical Officer, serving the last four months as interim CEO. He has a 16-year career in leadership in nationally renowned hospital, residential, and outpatient treatment programs, providing evidence-based mental health and addiction services for children and adults.

As President and CEO, Dr. Groat assumes leadership of all strategic and operational activities for the Center. Dr. Groat’s blend of leadership depth, clinical acumen, growth mindset, and his talent for creative and complex problem-solving will engage staff, improve patient experience, and drive organizational excellence. He has a proven record of successful partnerships with referrers, families, academicians, and behavioral healthcare organizations and will help build partnerships and grow capacity.

He is the former CEO of CooperRiis, a 95-bed residential program located in Asheville, North Carolina, and was Chief Clinical Officer of Silver Hill Hospital, a 129-bed hospital with seven residential programs, three inpatient units, and an outpatient clinic. He also previously served as the Director of Adult Services at the Menninger Clinic, overseeing its flagship professionals and executives’ program, subacute program, and outpatient clinic. Dr. Groat helped launch successful programs, including the framework for a grateful patient donor program at the Menninger Clinic, an aftercare support service at Silver Hill Hospital, expansion of CooperRiis’ community integration program, and an assessment service at Silver Hill Hospital. He has consistently driven increased patient satisfaction and high staff morale and helped launch successful patient outcomes.

Dr. Groat completed a four-year postdoctoral fellowship in the treatment of treatment-refractory personality disorders and other mental disorders at the Austen Riggs Center. He is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He was previously the Chief Clinical Officer and Director of Psychology and Assessment at the Silver Hill Hospital, where he was also Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. While at Menninger, Dr. Groat was associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Groat has lectured widely on topics related to psychotherapeutic treatments, acute and intermediate levels of care, suicide prevention, personality assessment and recovery.

Lindner Center of Hope is currently in a $30 million campaign to support the expansion of treatment spaces and grow their endowment for recruiting and retaining the best clinicians. The Center expects to begin sitework for the expansion in the spring.

Lindner Center of Hope to Host Touchdown for HOPE on Sunday, February 9, 2025. starting with tailgating at 5:30 p.m. before the BIG GAME kicks-off at 6:30 p.m., at the Great American Ballpark Bally’s Sports Club.

Lindner Center of Hope Outreach Specialist Recognized by Healthnetwork Foundation

 Sulcer Selected as Recipient of 2024 Exceptional Care Award

Maria Sulcer, Lindner Center of Hope outreach specialist, is the recipient of a Healthnetwork Foundation 2024 Exceptional Care Award. On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, representatives of the Healthnetwork Foundation’s Board of Directors and staff came to Lindner Center of Hope to honor Sulcer with lunch and the award.

 As a Healthnetwork Exceptional Care Award honoree, Sulcer was presented with a $5,000 check for Lindner Center of Hope to use towards efforts that will benefit the outreach team. She will be featured in an upcoming annual Healthnetwork magazine.

 The criteria for the Exceptional Care Award includes: assisting patients with timely appointments with the right doctors; excellent communication with both patients and Healthnetwork staff; a consistent record of positive feedback from patients; meeting patients and helping them as needed with questions; and going above and beyond with patient “touches”.

New visual identity illuminates Center’s focus on providing path to mental wellbeing for patients

MASON, Ohio (August 8, 2024) – Lindner Center of Hope, one of the nation’s leading mental health centers, today revealed its new brand identity, signifying an exciting new milestone in the Center’s growth since its opening in August 2008.

“In less than two decades, Lindner Center of Hope has grown into a locally, nationally, and internationally recognized brand due to the excellent care and pioneering research that takes place here every day,” said Paul R. Crosby, MD, MBA, President and Chief Executive Officer, Lindner Center of Hope. “Our vision is to continue to raise the standard of mental health care and wellness throughout our community, the U.S., and the world, and with today’s announcement we begin the next chapter of providing life-changing care and support to an even larger number of people.”

Lindner Center of Hope initiated the rebrand to better bridge the Center’s world-renowned reputation with its strategic vision to pursue excellence by putting individuals first. Rebrand continues transformational era for Lindner Center of Hope

Lindner Center of Hope continues to innovate its care model and is prepared to meet the mental health needs of the Greater Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky communities and beyond well into the future.

 

Today’s rebranding reveal is part of a broader organizational evolution which includes the Center’s 2022 announcement that it would launch a new, $30 million development campaign to expand its facilities, staff and services.

The event featured renowned speaker, Kevin Hines, a mental health advocate and survivor of a suicide attempt from the Golden Gate Bridge and a live auction.

Half Day Workshop Offered Education on Mental Health and Wellness to More Than 200

Lindner Center of HOPE hosted more than 200 community members at Community Education Day on Sunday, May 19, 2024 in acknowledgement of May Mental Health Month at Manor House in Mason. The half-day workshop offered an opportunity for community members to enhance their awareness of mental health and wellness.

Brandon Saho, Creator of The Mental Game Podcast, Cincinnati native and former sports reporter with WLWT-TV was the keynote speaker. Saho said goodbye to his dream job in 2022 to focus on his mental health. Saho says he was at his lowest. He was depressed and alone and he didn’t know how to live. Saho spent time as a patient at Lindner Center of HOPE and realized that he didn’t want anyone to struggle like he did, so he started The Mental Game podcast. Saho spends time talking with athletes, musicians, and celebrities with the goal of saving lives through these conversations.

Three sets of breakout sessions followed the keynote presentation. Attendees designed their afternoon according to their areas of interest choosing from varying topics such as:  depression, empowered parenting, finding a therapist, addictions and more.

Just prior to the breakout sessions, attendees participated in a friendly farewell to Michael G. Leadbetter, MD. Dr. Leadbetter, retired plastic surgeon, will launch his year-long friendship bus tour of the United States June 2024 raising awareness around the importance of friendship and connection for mental wellness. The trip is in memory of Leadbetter’s wife, Debbie, his life partner for 49 years. The couple had planned much of the trip before Debbie passed, with the goal of visiting friends around the country, highlighting the significant role friends played in their lives and their mental wellness.

Community Education Day also offered a resource center for participants to gather information on other community services and offerings.

Trip to honor wife’s memory and raise awareness of the importance of friendship for mental wellness

Michael G. Leadbetter, MD, retired plastic surgeon, will launch his year-long friendship bus tour of the United States June 2024 raising awareness around the importance of friendship and connection for mental wellness. The trip is in memory of Leadbetter’s wife, Debbie, his life partner for 49 years. The couple had planned much of the trip before Debbie passed, with the goal of visiting friends around the country, highlighting the significant role friends played in their lives and their mental wellness. Leadbetter intends to donate $25 to Lindner Center of HOPE, a mental health center of excellence in Mason, Ohio, for every friend he interacts with on his journey. He is also hopeful that interested individuals that he meets will contribute to Lindner Center of HOPE and/or mental health causes of their own in recognition of his year-long tour. Leadbetter has a list of 150 friends he would like to visit who have played an important part in he and his wife’s journey.

Leadbetter and his wife lost their oldest daughter, who was living with bipolar disorder, to progressive illness caused by years of depression and uncontrolled addiction in 2020.  This devastating loss has fueled his passion for mental health.

“A person can hear, but a friend listens for meaning. A person can look, but a friend sees the heart. A person can know, but a friend understands your dreams. When in need, the Lindner Center of HOPE is where you will find your friends,” Leadbetter shared.

Leadbetter and Lindner Center of HOPE will have a launch party for the friendship bus tour on May 19, 2024, as part of Lindner Center of HOPE’s Community Education Day at The Manor House in Mason. The community event offers mental health education to local community members during a half-day event that includes a key-note speaker, resource fair and break-out sessions on mental health and wellness topics.

The official tour will begin in Brookville, Ohio, Leadbetter’s hometown on June 2 at a reunion with classmates from the classes of 1965 and 1966.

About Dr. Leadbetter

Leadbetter was a 1965 graduate of Brookville Ohio High School. He graduated from Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio in 1969. In 1974 he graduated from The Ohio State College of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He went on to complete his plastic surgery residency at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a founding member of the Plastic Surgery Group in Cincinnati where he practiced for 40 years before retiring in 2020. He is a board member of the Reid Rizzo Foundation. He is past president of the Ohio State College of Medicine Alumni Society and a past board member of The Cincinnati Music and Wellness Coalition.
