Weight restoration, nutritional support, coping skills instruction and disease management assistance are features of this Eating Disorders Partial Hospitalization Program for adults.

MASON – (Sept. 26, 2014) – Beginning Monday, September 29, Lindner Center of HOPE will offer an expanded partial hospitalization program for patients 18 and older struggling with eating disorders.

For those who suffer with eating disorders, food and mealtimes become a source of fear, panic, anxiety and pain. Managing this illness often requires an intermediate level of care between acute inpatient care and outpatient care; this level of care is available at Lindner Center of HOPE for adults age 18 and older.

The Eating Disorder Partial Hospitalization Program at Lindner Center of HOPE (EDO PHP) is a treatment program designed to provide intensive treatment for eating disordered patients who do not meet criteria for inpatient hospitalization but who are not stable enough to be treated in the traditional outpatient setting. The goal of EDO PHP is weight restoration, nutritional support and planning, instruction of cognitive coping skills, and to assist patients in the management of their disease and symptoms to the point that traditional outpatient services will be effective. EDO PHP is often used as step-down treatment from inpatient hospitalization with the intent of transitioning the patient back into their home environment and healthy routines. As such, EDO PHP is a cost effective option for patients who meet admission criteria for this program.

EDO PHP operates Monday through Friday (except legal holidays), 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on the campus of the Lindner Center of HOPE at 4075 Old Western Row Road, Mason, 45040. Duration of the program is based on individual progress towards established goals; however the average length of stay for the EDO PHP is four to six weeks. The program features:

  • Attended and supported breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Monitored physical status, including weight and vital signs
  • Check-In and Check-Out with goal setting and debriefing of skills attempted
  • Group programs which are DBT-based and with a primary focus on skill development
  • Supportive individual therapy
  • Nutritional and meal planning support
  • Specialized EDO group therapy
  • Family support and education

The EDO PHP at Lindner Center of HOPE operates in conjunction with Lindner Center of HOPE’s Adult Partial Hospitalization Program, available for adults who are experiencing emotional or behavioral issues significant enough to affect daily functioning or quality of life. Patients may be suffering with diagnoses, including but not limited to: mood disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, adjustment disorders and thought disorders not requiring hospitalization.

In its sixth year, Mason-based treatment center has expanded facilities, treated more than 23,000 patients

MASON – (Aug. 18, 2014) – As the Lindner Center of HOPE celebrates its sixth anniversary this month, the facility that provides scientifically-advanced care for those suffering with mental illness has made a global impact, helped to increase public awareness about mental and addictive disorders, and continues to raise funds to support demand for treatment.

When the center opened in 2008, it was the first free-standing behavioral health center built nationwide since 2001. And today, the 36-acre campus based in Mason has become one of the most sought-after facilities in the country.

“We wanted to provide a place where people suffering with mental illness could get some of the best treatment in the United States,” said President and CEO Paul Keck. “I am proud of the positive strides our team has made in helping patients recover their lives, but we still face so many challenges – from insufficient coverage by insurers to the stigmas associated with mental illness. We have to do our part to shift the narrative.”

Keck cites national statistics that show mental illness is the country’s primary health problem. Twenty percent of adults in the United States suffer from mental illness according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Left untreated, mental illness leads to lost productivity in the workplace, places a strain on families, and leads to unnecessary incarceration.

The growth of the center and the rise in the number of patients it has treated over six years suggests there was a gap between the need for care and the availability of care. Consider the Center has:

  • Served more than 23,000 patients from 48 states and seven countries.
  • Had more than 7,000 hospital admissions.
  • Had more than   225,000 outpatient visits.
  • Served more than 700 patients at Sibcy House, the 10-day short-term intensive adult treatment program.
  • Created a 21-day adolescent diagnostic treatment program.

The Center is now in the midst of a $15 million Advancing HOPE Campaign, and has raised $11.1 million. The funds will allow the Center to continue to support mental health research, and provide mental health programs and services.

“We are so grateful for people who understand the importance of diagnosing and treating mental illness, and their support is crucial to our long-term success,” Keck said. “Mental illness is more common than heart disease, cancer and other health concerns, and we must make sure we approach treatment just as we would other medical conditions.”

Ribbon Cutting and Special Recognition of Sue and Bill Butler Were Highlights of Events

May 1st through May 3rd Lindner Center of HOPE hosted three open house events to celebrate the Mason mental health center’s expansion and the public launch of its $15 million comprehensive campaign, Advancing HOPE.

In August 2008, Lindner Center of HOPE opened to patients and families struggling with mental illness. Since opening, more than 23,000 patients have received mental health and addiction services. In its more than 5 years since opening, the Center’s Sibcy House, comprehensive diagnostic and intensive treatment program, has drawn hundreds of patients from all over the country and around the world, while serving many local and regional families.

Lindner Center of HOPE broke ground in August 2013 on a 15,816sf addition to the Mason facility, in order to allow Sibcy House to relocate into a new and enhanced therapeutic environment. The ultimate plan for the relocation of Sibcy House is to open up space within the current hospital building to add a new adolescent comprehensive diagnostic and intensive treatment program for patients ages 11 to 17. This adolescent program is scheduled to open May 12, 2014.

Both Sibcy House and the new adolescent program specialize in intensive assessment and treatment of patients with complex mental health and addiction issues during a short-term residential treatment stay. A multi-disciplinary team is assigned to each patient and works to provide diagnostic clarity and clinical skills development to help them achieve treatment success. With Sibcy’s success, the adolescent program has been a steady request coming from Lindner Center of HOPE constituencies.

The $15 million Advancing HOPE fundraising campaign co-chaired by Sharon Frisbie and Pam Sibcy, publicly kicked off on May 1, 2014. Members of Lindner Center of HOPE’s board of directors and campaign cabinet have raised $9.2 million dollars during a quiet phase, with the intention of supporting facility and program enhancement, strengthening the Center’s endowment to allow for the continued growth of the outstanding research taking place, as well as boost on-going funds for the Center. Another key goal of campaign efforts is to increase the number of people that know and support the Center, spreading the message about the amazing work that is taking place.

Open House Events May 1 through 3 offered opportunities to various constituencies to tour the new Sibcy House and learn more about the new adolescent comprehensive diagnostic and intensive treatment program.

Thursday, May 1, 2014 was the Grand Opening and Public Campaign Kick Off Celebration for Lindner Center of HOPE 125 VIPs, supporters, and local dignitaries. This event featured a ribbon cutting and recognition of Sue and Bill Butler.

Mrs. and Mr. Butler serve on the Advancing HOPE campaign cabinet and Mr. Butler is a member of the Center’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Butler, President and CEO of Corporex Companies, is experienced in building commercial buildings and residential buildings. He is dedicated to community service and early on, when planning began for new construction at Lindner Center of HOPE, Mr. Butler offered to take charge. Mr. Butler was recognized for giving his time and talent to assist with the design of the building and offering cost-saving ideas.

Friday, May 2, 2014 was a Collaborative Partners Open House for referrers and potential referrers to Lindner Center of HOPE. This event hosted more than 40 professionals who refer patients to mental health services. The evening included tours with informal presentations in different areas of the new Sibcy House.

Saturday, May 3, 2014 was a Public Open House for all interested community members. This event welcomed more than 50 members of the public, providing an opportunity to tour the new Sibcy House and learn more about Sibcy and the new adolescent diagnostic and intensive treatment program.

The new Sibcy House is open for admissions and the Adolescent Comprehensive Diagnostic Assessment and Intensive Treatment Program will open May 12, 2014.
